YAY!

  • An astonishing transfer for a film that was shot in 1922
  • The film score fits the movie perfectly (Even if not as impactful as James Bernard's BFI release)
  • Still as creepy as ever
  • Brilliant tinting (even if it was 'borrowed' from the BFI transfer)
  • Fantastic extras on both discs

MEH!

  • Some of the inter titles do have a FWMS watermark on the bottom which can get a little distracting
  • Some shots have been stabilised significantly while others are still all over the place

BOO!

  • Not a damn thing

VERDICT

YAY!

SYNOPSIS
A recently slain cop joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department as he tries to find the man who murdered him - IMDB

YAY!

  • Not a damn thing!

MEH!

  • Jeff Daniels seems to care about this movie a lot more than anyone else

BOO!

  • An unapologetic Men in Black rip-off. (and not even an M.I.B 1 rip, rather a M.I.B 2 rip off)
  • An interesting premise, completely flushed down the Hollywood toilet
  • There has been 3 action scenes in the first 20 twenty minutes, should I really be this bored?
  • No chemistry with anyone.
  • Moronic dialogue
  • Hey, why isn't Kevin Bacon the lead? He was the best thing in this!
  • Explosion, explosion, blah, blah, blah! Explosion, explosion, blah!
  • Tries to be funny. but the only joke is the entire movie!

VERDICT

BOO!

Retro Review: Vampire's Kiss (1988)

SYNOPSIS

Vampire's Kiss follows the story of yuppie literary agent Peter Loew (Nicolas Cage) as he descends into madness and vampirism.

62% - Rotten Tomatoes

Currently available on Netflix

YAY!
  • Nicolas Cage's performance is simply mesmerising. Every other wacky Nic Cage performance doesn't come close to being as wacky as this. It truly is something special.
  • The moment he gets his vampire teeth
  • The end seen between Cage and his psychiatrist
  • "I'm a Vampire!, I'm a Vampire!, I'm a Vampire!, I'm a Vampire!"
  • "ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ!"
MEH!
  • The film seems to change it's mind on what is actually going on mid way through
  • His insanity is never really justified
  • What the hell is going on with Cage's accent?
BOO!
  • The script
  • Everyone Else's performance
VERDICT!

YAY!
(Only due to Nic Cage's performance. The rest of the movie gets a MEH!)

PLOT:

The story of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a woman in her thirties who is sentenced to 15 months in prison after she is convicted of a decade old crime of transporting money for her drug dealing girlfriend (Laura Prepon).

YAY
  • Although not the most original - but definitely the freshest new show for a long time
  • Every character is fleshed out to perfection
  • Takes the plot points you'd expect but in complete different ways
  • You'll fall in love with every character - even the ones they show doesn't want you too.
  • The best written female characters on TV, FILM, VIDEO GAMES, pretty much everywhere

MEH
  • None!

BOO
  • I didn't need to see Jason Biggs masturbate ten years ago, and I didn't need to see it again

LONE STAR SOUL - BOOK ONE - SOLE INVITATION By Peter Campbell

Facebook:
Twitter

YAY!
  • An unbelievably deep story
  • It has a very Mad Max meets Flash Gordon, trapped in Dune feel to it
  • Art work is simply beautiful
  • The world Campbell creates is both luscious and terrifying
  • Panels are perfectly structured
  • Dialogue and narration is perfectly paced
MEH!
  • The first issue does try to pack too much in to it but Alan Moore fans will find it perfect.
  • Could have maybe used a another character to bounce off in the first issue
BOO!
  • Far too many commercial pages at the back end of the book

The Last of Us

Review by Matthew Bramhall

YAY!
  • The visuals of the game are stunning, especially the outdoor/ natural environments
  • The main character is a very "human" character, if he was described he isn't a very likable person but naughty dog pull it off very well and most people could understand and empathise with him
  • The game tries to be very minimal with the HUD coming across as gritty and realistic.
  • A nice interesting story and you want to know what happens to these characters.
  • AI of the female character is for the most part very good and protects herself AND you in combat
MEH!
  • The character of Ellie is clearly modelled after the actor Ellen Page and to me comes across as very annoying in places
  • The mechanic of crafting items is limited to a small amount of items
  • The game seems to let you pick if you want to go all guns blazing or stealth but I felt the game punished me if I didn't use stealth
  • Story doesn't deliver on the emotional front and as it seems to leave gaps where things may have happened, sorry to say that could be DLC
  • There are only 4 enemy types in the game and combat can be repetitive
  • Multiplayer feels tacked on and is mainly capture the flag/ deathmatch hybrid
BOO!
  • AI of enemies isn't too logical and can see you when you are behind, other times they could be looking at you and not see you
  • Quick time events really damage the realistic and gritty feel that the game crafts
  • The combat is unfairly hard early on, more so when you try to use guns as the accuracy is horrible, its only later when you upgrade ability's it becomes easier
  • One enemy type can instantly kill you unless you have a specific combo of a skill and item, this is more so in the early stages
  • The hype of the game has damaged the game and blown expectations up too much.
